Goal Setting – How to Achieve Your Goals – 5 Tips

5 Tactics You Can Use to Become a Goal Achiever

Why do some people seem to succeed in all they do, but others flounder along at the rear? Mostly it’s because the successful people have set goals, created a plan to achieve those goals and then implemented their plan. It’s not rocket science. Successful people set their goals, and then they take the steps to achieve their goals.

Here are 5 simple tactics used by all successful goal setters:

1. Decide on a goal and write it down. Take into account when you plan to achieve the goal and why it’s important.  Be as detailed as possible, explaining how the achievement of this goal will change your life for the better. Once your goal has been documented, break the goal into the tangible steps you need to take to achieve your goal.

2. Make certain the goal is something you really, really want, and not something you think you should do, be or have.  Ask yourself, “Do I really, really want this goal? How will the achievement of this goal improve my life?”  If your answer to the last question isn’t completely compelling, perhaps the goal isn’t the right goal for you.  A compelling reply to “Why do I want this?” will help you stay motivated to achieve your goal.

Publicize your goals... that's right! Tell others what you plan to achieve.

3. Publicize your goals. That’s right.  Don’t keep your goals to yourself. Sharing your goals can help you get the support you may need from others. Some people are concerned with telling others about their goals because they’re worried they will fail. However, telling others means that you are more likely to achieve your goals either with their support or in spite of them.

4. Write down your goals. Post them where you can see your goals every single day. I like to review my goals list first thing every morning.

5. Be committed. Stay on track. Don’t give up. When you encounter an obstacle along the way, just imagine the obstacle is nothing more than a test to see how dedicated you are to achieving this goal you’ve set. If you’re 100% committed to achieving your goal, nothing can stop you. It will all boil down to your taking immense action to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself. Only you can make it happen. Nothing can stop you if you have set your mind to it and commit to taking action.

These may seem like simple tactics…and they are, but – less than 5% of the population use them. In fact, less than 5% of the population has clearly articulate, written goals.  To learn more about goal setting and how to achieve your goals, be sure to check out my goal setting book.
